Give Yourself Permission

While coaching an incredible leader recently, she said she felt she couldn’t pursue something because she’d need permission to do it.

I asked her how she could give herself permission.

She thought I was a little off my rocker.

I get it! I really do.

I’ve felt the same way before.

Could I really pursue that idea at work I’m dying to try?

How would I ever take that vacation with so many things on my plate?

What if I started a business?

In each of these examples (and almost every other one like it), we may feel we need permission to step out and do it.

When you’re pondering anything related to work, there’s a strong chance your leadership would appreciate your efforts to innovate.

When you’re pondering personal opportunities, it’s possible you’re wanting approval that may not be necessary or may never come from loved ones.

This leads me back to the original suggestion: Give yourself permission.

You can give yourself permission to try, fail, learn, invest, and grow.
