Why Do You Hustle?
Happy Thursday!
Whether you're facing your work week with energy or exhaustion, I want to relieve your mind a bit:
Ambition isn't a problem.
Ambition involves some determination and a desire to achieve.
Hustle is where the real problem lies.
Hustle involves pushing through your body's warning signals to calm the heck down.
I know a thing or two about hustle because I used to burn out every couple of years.
I felt so hopeless.
I loved my work and all the opportunities God gave me, but I'd wind up in the same spot time after time:
emotionally spent
spiritually distant from God
frustrated with my relationships
short on reaching my goals at work
using poor eating, exercise, and sleep habits to function
Maybe you've been there or are afraid of being there again.
Sometimes those of us who are prone to burnout get anxious when we get a fresh idea.
We worry when we get energized by a project.
We fear we'll push ourselves too hard because we've done it before.
Don't worry about the ideas - you want those to come.
Focus instead on your tendency to hustle.
Why do you hustle?
When did you first start hustling?
Why are you willing to wear yourself out to achieve something?
Who else is harmed by your tendency to hustle?
I haven't burned out since 2017, and I thank God for that.
I worked with an empathetic, truth telling coach who held me accountable to change.
This is what I offer you: truth-telling empathy and accountability to make authentic, lasting change.
If you're facing this work week with a nagging fear of falling apart, let's work together.
