Are You Hustling?
Are you hustling?
When we gain awareness about our tendencies to overwork, burn out, and bypass rest, it can take awhile to build trust in ourselves to know if we're still hustling when things get busy.
Sometimes the circumstances of our lives pick up speed,
and we want to make sure we aren't accelerating unnecessarily.
Have compassion for yourself when this happens.
I still experience this pace increase at times, and it's been over 6 years since I last experienced burnout.
Use my tried and true 1-minute method to assess yourself when this happens.
If you're sensing that you might be dipping your toes into the world of hustle, ask yourself:
Which of the following are the main reason(s) I am working so hard or pushing myself right now?
A) trying to gain favor with someone
B) seeking to obey God
C) wanting to control an outcome
D) desiring to serve someone/a group of people
Any answer including B or D won't include much (if any) hustle. These motivations don't put you at a great risk of failing to care for yourself. Stay the course, mindfully.
Any answer including A or C will involve the type of pressure related to the act of hustling. These motivations are typically based upon fears or limiting beliefs. Explore your fears or limiting beliefs around the people you want to please and/or the outcomes you desire to control.
Any answer combining A, B, C, or D: Stay the course, but pause to explore your fears or limiting beliefs around the people you want to please and/or the outcome you desire to control.
My prayer is that you'd give yourself the gift of time.
Awareness doesn't happen without time.
Take another minute or two and go back up to that question and authentically admit where you're at today.
Don't get stuck in self-judgment.
Gain traction through the awareness God gives you by agreeing with Him if you're trying to please people or control outcomes.
Imagine the freedom of not worrying about what others think or what unexpected events might occur.
